About Computing Stories

Computing Stories is an experimental app for curiosity, learning, and exploration. It helps you discover excerpts from computing oral histories, watch source interviews, and explore AI-generated connections to your questions.

Computer Stories operates Computing Stories. These terms describe how the app is intended to be used. They do not replace the terms or permissions attached to the original source material or to services you reach through the app.

Quotes, context, and AI

Interview excerpts are presented with available source information. An excerpt may omit context, and transcripts, speaker labels, metadata, or clip timing may contain errors. Read the transcript or watch the full interview when accuracy or context matters.

AI chooses relevant passages and writes explanations. These explanations may be mistaken, incomplete, or loosely related to your question. They are the app’s interpretations, not new statements by the interviewee or the Computer History Museum. Do not attribute an AI explanation to the person quoted.

The app is for exploration and does not provide professional advice. Independently check information before using it for consequential decisions.

Using the app responsibly

Use the app lawfully and respectfully. Do not attempt to disrupt it, bypass access controls, overload its services, or access information you are not authorized to see. Do not submit private information about others, confidential material, or content you lack permission to share.

Only submit questions you are comfortable having processed by AI services and saved for evaluation. How questions and feedback are handled is explained in the Privacy notice.

Source material and attribution

Interviews, transcripts, recordings, images, names, and other source material belong to their respective rights holders. Providing an excerpt or source link does not grant permission to reuse that material beyond the permissions supplied by the source or applicable law.

If you quote or share an excerpt, credit the speaker and original source, preserve its meaning, and check the relevant rights and reuse conditions. AI-generated commentary does not imply endorsement by the speaker, museum, or other rights holder.

External services

Videos and source links rely on services such as YouTube and the Computer History Museum. Their content, availability, privacy practices, and terms are controlled by those providers. Links may change, and videos or transcripts may become unavailable.

Availability and changes

The app is offered as an evolving experiment. Features, supported interviews, and AI behavior may change, and the service may be paused or discontinued. Uninterrupted access and error-free results are not guaranteed.

These terms may be revised as the app develops. The date above identifies the latest version. Nothing in these terms is intended to remove rights you have under applicable law.
